Djemila (Arabic : جميلة) "the beautiful" is a municipality in northeastern Algeria
t is located in the province of Setif, bordering the regions of Lower Kabylia and Constantine.
It is about 350 Km far from Algiers,. The town shelters the remains of the ancient "Cuicul".
The municipality of “Cuicul” is founded, probably by the veterans of Nerva, at the end of the first century (in 96 BC).
Its name is that of a Berber village or place that had not been Latinized then.
The city is embellished with a forum,
a capitol, several temples, a curia, a market and a theater of great thermal baths, the time the city saw its extension to the south.
In the light of its preservation, “Cuicul” of Djemila was considered, by the UNESCO, as a World Humanity Heritage Site in 1981.
